• Fake Nationality: Guy is played by Nino Castelnuovo, who's Italian. Madeline and the jeweler Dubourg are both played by German actors.
• Non-Singing Voice: Since the actors weren't trained singers, most of them were re-dubbed. Appropriately, two of the singers had previously dubbed the main characters of Disney films: Danielle Licari (Geneviève) was Aurora's French singing voice in Sleeping Beauty, and Christiane Legrand (Madame Emery) looped Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins. Jacques Demy himself dubbed a couple of voices.
• Real-Life Relative: The little girl at the end, Geneviève's daughter, is Demy's step daughter, Rosalie Varda.
• Star-Making Role:
  • Umbrellas is the film that made Catherine Deneuve an international star.
  • Not an actor, but composer. Michel Legrand's score launched his Hollywood career and brought him the first of four Oscar nominations.
