Trivia / The Simpsons S9 E20 "The Trouble with Trillions"

Go To

  • Life Imitates Art: In this episode, Cuba is facing economic collapse, prompting Fidel Castro to think about reaching out to the United States. They bounce back when they take a 1 trillion dollar bill from Mr. Burns. In December 2014, Barack Obama and Raul Castro, Fidel's brother and successor, announced the restoration of diplomatic ties, effectively ending the 50+ year embargo between the two nations.
  • Reality Subtext: The episode's Chalkboard Gag had Bart writing, "I will not demand what I'm worth." Around the time this episode aired, the voice cast was in a heated debate with FOX executives over pay raises.
  • What Could Have Been: According to the DVD Commentary, the original script for this episode had Homer pretending he was a Native American to avoid having to pay taxes, but after the writers did some research and found out that Native Americans do in fact have to pay taxes (and because the writers had no idea how to make it funny), the premise had to be changed.
