Trivia / The Simpsons S9 E1 "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson"

• Banned Episode: This episode was banned in the UK for years after 9/11; it was the only episode that BBC Two (the terrestrial broadcaster of the show between 1996 and 2004) never showed, as they first got the rights to the season right after the attacks happened. Sky One and Channel 4 have since reintroduced it, although Sky aired a heavily censored version that removes any reference whatsoever to the World Trade Center (and both channels remove the "They stick all the jerks in Tower 1" exchange). This also happened with some American syndication broadcasts for a few years, with aforementioned scenes cut.
• Blooper: When Homer goes to the top of the North Tower, its TV antenna is missing, which is clearly a goof as it's visible in all other shots.
• Creator Backlash: According to the DVD commentary, the writers addressed the fact that the episode is now considered dated because of the 9/11 attacks. They aren't particularly ashamed of it, except for the line, "They stick all the jerks in Tower 1."
