Trivia / The Simpsons S 7 E 19 A Fish Called Selma

Go To

  • The Cast Showoff: This episode takes full advantage of Phil Hartman's singing talent. Stop The Planet Of The Apes, I Want To Get Off! is a joy both to watch and to listen to, not just for the Simpsons but for the real-life audience.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: The writing staff has talked about how much fun they had writing Stop The Planet Of the Apes, I Want To Get Off!, citing "I hate every ape I see, from chimpan-A to chimpan-Z" (which David X. Cohen came up with) as one of the greatest lines of the entire series. Several of the writers had been big Planet of the Apes fans growing up, though at the time, showrunner Josh Weinstein only knew the plot of the original movie from a MAD magazine parody ("The Milking of the Planet That Went Ape").
  • Deleted Scene:
    • Troy's bachelor party, which includes a name-drop of another of Troy's old movies. Abe shows the patrons a film. The film is about the Heine-Ho Nudist colony where activities are done naked. Homer complains that it's just nude people and demands a film with mature themes and adult situations (read: an actual porno). Barney then agrees with Homer.
    • Troy returning to his honeymoon suite after talking to MacArthur Parker, where it turns out he and Selma aren't even sharing the same bed.
  • The Other Darrin: Normally, Joe Mantegna voices Fat Tony. However, for this episode, Phil Hartman (who already spent most of the episode as Troy McClure) voiced Fat Tony. The producers chose not to bring Mantegna in due to the part being so small they believed he wouldn't want to do it. After the episode aired, Mantegna informed them that he would always make time to voice Fat Tony, no matter the size of his part in the story, and has done so since. Ironically, said scene is almost always cut for time on repeats anyway.
