Trivia / The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard

Go To

  • Dueling Works: With Heretic II. Both are action-adventure fantasy computer games, feature a protagonist returning to save his homeland after a long period of absence, are the fourth installment in their respective franchises, the first in those franchises to be played from a third-person perspective, and were released in Fall 1998. Ironically, while Redguard had lukewarm reception and poor sales compared to Heretic II, The Elder Scrolls continued on (though the Adventures spin-off series was discontinued) while the Heretic/Hexen series has lain in dormancy for over two decades.
  • Feelies: The game came packaged with The Pocket Guide to the Empire, the first comprehensive (though often unreliable from an in-universe perspective) look at the series' background lore. Early releases were also bundled with a copy of the Prequel comic book The Origin of Cyrus, which can now be downloaded as a PDF from Bethesda's website.
  • Follow the Leader: Redguard takes a lot after Tomb Raider I and Prince of Persia in its level design and gameplay.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Was the case until August 2015 when GOG.com finally Rescued the game. Bethesda also did the same thing with the game's comic book tie-in The Origin of Cyrus, which was previously only available with early releases of the game. A PDF of the comic is currently free to download from their website.
  • Stillborn Franchise: Two sequels, titled Eye of Argonia and Paradise Sugar, were scheduled to be released on PlayStation 2. But after Redguard proved to be a commercial disappointment, Bethesda cancelled both of them so that they could focus more on the main series.
