Trivia / The Cat Who... Series

  • Defictionalization:
    • Short and Tall Tales: Moose County Legends, the book of local folk stories Qwill collected and published, was actually published as a real book, with Qwill's byline above Braun's.
    • Book #26 (The Cat Who Talked Turkey) sees Qwill starting work on another book, The Private Life of the Cat Who..., which was also published as a real book, subtitled "From the Journal of James Mackintosh Qwilleran".
  • Died During Production: The Cat Who Smelled Smoke was to be the thirtieth volume, set to be published in 2008 but put on hold due to the author's failing health. When she passed away in 2011, the book was canceled entirely, and so the series will remain unfinished.
  • Franchise Zombie: The series continued for years despite overwhelming agreement that the quality of the novels had greatly declined, and many suspected publisher interference.
  • Genius Bonus: To an extent, the name of the Pickaxe Picayune could be seen as this. As noted on the main page, to call something picayune means to say that it is trivial or has very little worth. However, picayune is not a commonly used word nowadays; it's actually the name of a Spanish coin which is no longer in circulation, and which was accepted as legal tender in the United States for the first half of the 19th century. Arguably, the newspaper's name could be considered an In-Universe example of Genius Bonus, since a community "four hundred miles north of everywhere" is probably not heavily populated with people who are familiar with the etymology of the term.
    • The paper also shares its name with a real-life newspaper, the New Orleans Times-Picayune, which was named after the coin (because that's what an issue sold for when the paper was started in 1837).
