Trivia / The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas

Go To

  • Creator Breakdown: Kotler's actor, Rupert Friend, struggled throughout filming and became increasingly withdrawn after shooting some of the more harrowing scenes.
  • Deleted Scene: Involving Bruno and one of his friends encountering a Jewish man right before he is captured. This is presumably Pavel from the book.
  • Enforced Method Acting: When rehearsing the scene where Kotler asks the boys if Shmuel was stealing food, Rupert Friend merely raised his voice when he was supposed to shout his lines. Once they actually filmed the scene, the boys were genuinely startled by his sudden shouting.

  • Fake Nationality: The majority of the movie's cast are British using their own accents to play German characters. Vera Farmiga is an American playing a Fake Brit.
  • Shown Their Work: Bruno's mother is seen wearing her wedding ring on her right hand, as is the German tradition.
    • Subverted at the dinner with Ralf's father, when the Fake Brit Vera Farmiga can be seen using American cutlery etiquette (fork in the right hand while eating, tines up, scooping the food), as opposed to everyone else's European method (fork in the left hand, tines down, piercing the food).
  • The Wiki Rule: There's a small one for both the book and film.
