Trivia / The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan

  • Edited for Syndication: The DVD release contains a lot of scenes that were missing from the TV version.
  • Follow the Leader:
    • This was another example of Hanna-Barbera making a You Meddling Kids series. However, it was a loose adaptation of an existing mystery series of Charlie Chan. Chan had been, in his stories and films, assisted by his children, of whom the eldest was known as Henry, but the rest of this series' characters are wholly original.
    • The show makes use of the band setup, where half the Chan siblings form a band called the Chan Clan. The plots, however, aren't all that unlike a regular Charlie Chan case: Something goes missing and Chan is summoned to help find it, and his kids then try to solve the case themselves to mediocre results. The Chan Clan are amateur detectives akin to Scooby-Doo while Chan himself is an actual detective sought out for his expertise.
  • He Also Did: One of the lead writers was Jamie Farr, Klinger of M*A*S*H fame.
  • The Other Darrin: For the first few episodes, all the Chan Clan were voiced by Asian-American actors, but after complaints that the kids were hard to understand, most of them (except for Brian Tochi and Robert Ito) were replaced by Occidentals. That unfortunately is largely in reverse of most of the original films where while Charlie Chan was played by a white man in Yellowface, the character's family was played by actual Asian-American actors.
