Examples of Trivia from the show include:

  • Actor Allusion: Alaya High in real life is a professional child rapper, and although her character Lay Lay is not a professional, Lay Lay is a very entertaining and masterful rapper on the show who can make a good, catchy rap and hip hop song out of anything and on the spot anywhere.
    • The episode "Ha-Lay-Lay-Lujah" focuses on Lay Lay's character learning about religion, Christianity specifically, through attending church with the Alexander Family. In real life, Gabrielle Nevaeh Green and Alaya High are Christians who often post daily Bible verses and Christian quotes on their social media.
  • Cast Showoff: Alaya High and Gabrielle Nevaeh Green. Since High can rap, she is often seen in plenty of episodes rapping different songs, and because Green can sing, she is often seen singing and adding backup vocals to High's songs on the show.
  • Narm: In the episode "Lay Lay & Sadie's Big Hair Adventure," Sadie was supposed to be angry at Lay Lay for the prank she pulled that resulted in a mix of ketchup and chocolate syrup being poured on her head, but even though she's trying to pretend to be angry and stay on-script, you can tell her actress Gabrielle Nevaeh Green was trying very hard not to laugh and stay angry.
  • Expy: Some fans of "That Girl Lay Lay" online often compare Lay Lay's character to Raven-Symone's character, Raven Baxter, from the Disney Channel series, That's So Raven.
  • In Memoriam: The episode "Dylan and Rebecca's Cleve-Land-Land Adventure" was dedicated to the memory of David A. Arnold, who was the first showrunner and one of the executive producers of the series, as a memorial tribute episode after he passed away. David A. Arnold had also guest starred in the episode "Ha-Lay-Lay-Lujah" as the pastor of the local church the Alexander Family and Lay Lay attends.
  • Irony as She Is Cast:
    • Lay Lay's character on the show is very extroverted and outgoing, but Alaya High, in real life, has said that although she is a rapper and actress, she tends to be very shy, reserved, and introverted in her real-life private personality, and even has some small struggles with social anxieties.
      • This is quite the opposite with Sadie's actress Gabrielle Nevaeh Green, who even though her character tends to be pretty shy, timid, and have social anxiety sometimes, Green says, in real life, she is a very outgoing extrovert and doesn't struggle with social anxiety nearly as much as her character does on the show.
    • Lay Lay's character on the show is also well known for wearing quite flashy and flamboyant outfits and hairstyles. In real life, Alaya High often does wear flashy and flamboyant outfits for her image and persona as a rapper, but she says in her private life, she often does not like wearing such flashy and flamboyant outfits, and much prefers to rather wear more modest, girly, casual streetwear outfits.
  • Real-Life Relative: Gladys, the character on the show who's a friend of Sadie and Marky's mom, Trish, from church, and the owner of one of the local beauty salons that Sadie, Trish, and Lay Lay go to, is played by Lony'e Perrine, who is the real-life mother of Marky's actor, Peyton Perrine III.
    • Gigi's character is played by David A. Arnold's real-life daughter, Anna Grace Arnold.
