Trivia / Tales of the Wizard of Oz

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Desmond Dragon has often embarked in conversation with Rusty Tinman or the Wicked Witch of the West. All three characters were voiced by Larry Mann.
    • Paul Kligman voiced Dandy Lion and Ham, a flying monkey.
    • Alfie Scopp was Socrates Strawman, Baker, another flying monkey, and Robby the Rubber Man.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices:
    • Larry Mann voiced the Wicked Witch of the West, imitating Jonathan Winters' Maude Frickert character, no less!
    • Additionally, Chowy Mein's Fat Number One Son was voiced by Billie Mae Richards.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Even though it's a Rankin/Bass production, the series has never been released on DVD. The show was seen on Comcast On Demand's "Classic Kids" selection from 2003 to 2005, but it hasn't been seen since, outside of YouTube.
  • Missing Episode: "Chowy Mein", which has rarely been seen for a long time due to its un-PC stereotyping. It can be found on YouTube.
  • The Other Darrin: Dorothy was voiced by Corrine Conley in the main series, but for the Return to Oz special, Susan Conway did her speaking voice, and Susan Morse her singing voice. Additionally, Dandy Lion, voiced by Paul Kligman in the main series, was voiced by Carl Banas in the special.
  • Production Posse: Much of the Canadian voice talent from Rankin-Bass's famous Christmas Special, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964), supplied the majority of the voices in this series, including Paul Kligman (Donner and Comet) as Dandy Lion, Larry Mann (Yukon Cornelius) as Rusty Tinman and the Wicked Witch, Alfie Scopp (Charlie-in-the-Box and Fireball) as Socrates Strawman, and Corrine Conley (the Dolly for Sue) as Dorothy, along with other Rudolph voice actors like Carl Banas, Bernard Cowan, Stan Francis, Peggi Loder and Billie Mae Richards providing additional voices.
