• Science Marches On: The Voth are clearly established as ectotherms (cold-blooded) and harbor Fantastic Racism against endotherms, particularly mammals. Although paleontologists had been uncovering evidence since the 1970s and 1980s that dinosaurs were endothermic, the episode was released in 1997, at a time when this notion was only just being brought into popular consciousness thanks to films such as Jurassic Park. Today, scientists and popular culture are both in nearly unanimous agreement that dinosaurs were, in fact, warm-blooded, and are biologically closer to modern birds than they are to their reptilian ancestors. This is particularly true of theropods such as the dromaeosaurs^note colloquially known as the raptors, including genus Velociraptor and Deinonychus in which some species sported feather precursors, if not anatomically modern feathers.
• Uncredited Role: The earliest version of the script was written by Jeanna F. Gallo, who also wrote the first draft of TNG's "Sub Rosa". The end product deviated enough from Gallo's original storyline that she was denied any credit on the finished episode.^note Which was likely in part responsible for the long-standing Pop Culture Urban Legend that Gallo was actually just a lawyer-mandated pseudonym for Anne Rice, due to "Sub Rosa" sharing similarities with Rice's story "The Witching Hour". Had Gallo been credited on this episode, then that particular urban legend would probably have never arisen, seeing how Rice wasn't exactly known for writing about alien dinosaurs.
