Trivia / Star Trek Deep Space Nine S 02 E 19 Blood Oath

  • Creator Backlash:
    • While he enjoyed working on the episode, William Campbell stated this was his most difficult acting job and wished he could do it over again.
    • John Colicos was initially hesitant to reprise the role of Kor, as he felt the characterization was contradictory with the Kor of "Errand of Mercy". Colicos' input also played a role in Kor surviving the episode.
  • Creator's Favorite: This episode is unsurprisingly one of Terry Farrell's favorites (to say nothing of all three Klingon actors).
  • Recycled Set: The Albino's inner sanctum is a redress of the Masaka's Temple set from TNG's "Masks" (which had just been shot prior to production on "Blood Oath").
  • Serendipity Writes the Plot: We have sheer chance in the TOS production schedule to thank for creating three Klingons and making this episode possible. The creators wanted to have a recurring Klingon captain as a nemesis for Kirk: Koloth, played by William Campbell. When it was time for "Day Of The Dove", neither of the first two actors (Campbell and John Colicos from "Errand of Mercy"), were available, leading to Michael Ansara's Kang.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • In the episode's early development, the other three Klingons were initially just three brand-new characters that were old friends of Curzon's. It was Robert Hewitt Wolfe who conceived the idea of making them Kor, Koloth, and Kang.
    • There were initial discussions of having the original Klingons appear with their TOS-era makeup (i.e. no forhead prosthetics), but ultimately it was decided to update their appearances for consistency.
    • At one point, all three Klingons were going to die in the final battle with the Albino before the decision was reached to keep one of them alive. Kor was selected as the sole survivor based on input from Colicos.
