Corpsing: According to the DVD Commentary, the proposed idea to have Patrick hit SpongeBob over the head with a bat with a dented nail in it caused the entire writing board room to break down in laughter.
Creator-Driven Successor: The episode is one to "Prehibernation Week", according to the DVD Commentary. Aaron Springer and C.H. Greenblatt were extremely proud of how the episode turned out, so they wanted to take the next logical step and go from Sandy getting ready to hibernate to her actually hibernating.
Serendipity Writes the Plot: According to the DVD Commentary, during the storyboarding process, Aaron Springer and C.H. Greenblatt were feeling lazy and didn't want to draw water helmets on SpongeBob and Patrick. It was at that point that they realized they could explain it away through the fact that snow is water, and wrote it into the story as an excuse not to draw helmets.
Throw It In!: Patrick's "pinhead" face was a spur-of-the-moment creation, as according to the DVD Commentary, the face itself was a post-it note that Aaron Springer drew outside of the storyboard, and the writing team found it so funny that they decided to use it in the episode.
What Could Have Been: The original title was going to be "Survival of the Morons". Also, Sandy's bed was originally hanging from a branch (like a hammock).
