• Artist Disillusionment: Alexei Dubovsky, the programmer of the first two games, harbors an extreme hate for the fans of these games, apparently considering them to be casuals.
• Bad Export for You: The English version of the game has less text quests than the original Russian version.
• Creator Backlash: Alexei Dubovsky, who programmed the first two games, hates them badly, as he felt like they just copied the story of Babylon 5 and were too casual in gameplay. He didn't hate the universe, however, as he tried to develop Empire (a Free2Play browser-based 4X game) and Star time (which was meant to be a proper third installment).
• Game Mod:
  • A prominent one is called Shuniverse.^note also known with a whole bunch of different subtitles depending on version, the latest being Synchronized. It acts like a fusion of the first and second game by bringing all of the content from the former into the later (including the Klissans themselves as a 4th faction) as well as a host of new content and general improvements. As of 2021 not all of the content has been translated from Russian though, and unfortunately, the SNK Games forums disappeared in 2023, which makes it much harder to get the mod.
  • Original Space Rangers 2 received a fan-made expansion, Revolution, which added new music and quests, not featured in any other version of the game (including Shuniverse); its developers later formed SNK Games, which was hired to create Space Rangers HD: A War Apart. Nowadays, it's borderline lost media and No Export for You for English audience.
• Official Fan-Submitted Content:
  • The Revolution mod was partially integrated in the Promoted Fanboy way, as the devs of the mod were the ones hired to develop HD
  • The 2024 patch for the HD edition has reduced the difficulty of the pirate clan by one step. Notably, the patch came out 2 months after the Universe Community mod pack has used this exact tweak, and the game's sole remaining dev works with modders of that pack.
• Promoted Fanboy: After the Revolution mod has acquired widespread popularity among the Russian fandom, the developers went on to organize into SNK Games (SNK being the name of the group that developed the mod), and were the ones to develop HD.
