  • Alan Smithee: Jack Hill is credited under the pseudonym 'Brian Stuart', which is just the two first names of Roger Corman's children.
  • Creator Backlash: Jack Hill had his name taken off the film, and it marked the last time he worked with Roger Corman because of it.
  • Follow the Leader: Roger Corman wanted a Sword and Sorcery film to emulate Conan The Barbarian, and Jack Hill was inspired to make it about twin girls after The Corsican Brothers.
  • Looping Lines: American actors dubbed over the Mexican bit players.
  • Method Acting: Douglas Sanders studied apes at the local zoo to prepare for his role.
  • Troubled Production:
    • Roger Corman kept changing the film's shooting location, at one point aiming for the Philippines, and nearly securing Portugal but backing out when they didn't have the facilities required. It was about to film in Italy, when he ended up getting a better deal in Mexico. Said deal was a strange one with "various crooks", according to Jack Hill.
    • Jack Hill had signed on at the promise of getting access to Roger Corman's special effects unit in California, making a low budget film that would look much bigger than it was. Corman never delivered the budget he promised, supposedly because he was especially worried about money in the wake of home video causing a decline in drive-ins. They had to compromise on both special effects and music.
    • The four month shoot in Mexico was plagued by problems, such as frequent rain and even fires. At one point, the Mexican studio's film vault exploded, destroying two days' worth of footage.
    • While the film turned a small profit at the Box Office, it was poorly received, and frequently put on lists of 'Worst Movies Ever Made'.
  • What Could Have Been: Jack Hill wanted to cast Sid Haig as Pando, but Roger Corman wouldn't provide the fee for him.
