Trivia / Son of Flubber

  • Pop-Culture Urban Legends: A fairly infamous one, concerning the licensed toy being sold in connection with the release of Son of Flubber. The original 1963 Flubber was a somewhat icky substance composed of rubber, mineral oil, and Borax, and was blamed for a wave of rashes, nausea, and fever among children who'd claimed to have played with it; according to G. Wayne Miller's book Toy Wars (printed around the theatrical premiere of the remake), Hasbro's attempts to incinerate the recalled toy or dump it in the ocean were failures, since the toy could not burn and floated in water. In the end, so the story goes, they were forced to bury it under a parking lot in their Delta Drive facility, and even still it sometimes surged through the cracks in the pavement on hot summer days.note
  • Release Date Change: An insert inside the 2012 Blu-ray of Babes in Toyland promotes 2013 Blu-ray releases of The Absent-Minded Professor, Son of Flubber, and Flubber, in honor of the second movie's 50th anniversary. However, the anniversary came and went without any of these movies coming to Blu-ray. Disney provided no explanation for this delay, but did release The Absent-Minded Professor and Son of Flubber through the Disney Movie Club in 2016, in honor of the first movie's 55th anniversary.
