• Billing Displacement: The Mother release puts Daryl Hannah in the artwork and falsely implies that her character Susan is a Villain Protagonist.
• Dawson Casting:
  • Kirsten Prout (23) and Chloe Bridges (22) as 17-year-olds Cat and Emily.
  • Daryl Hannah was 53, while Susan seems like she's supposed to be maybe a decade younger (it's established that she had several failed pregnancies after she had Cat).
  • Also an Invoked Trope, as Pierce Baird, who plays Rodger, the boy who mysteriously shows up at school, befriends Cat, and recommends the services of a hacker, looks way too old to be in high school, but it's later revealed that he was apparently not even a student, and was trying to recruit her to be in a sex tape.
• Fake American: Canadian actress Kirsten Prout as California teen Cat.
• Irony as She Is Cast: Susan warning Cat about posing for racy pictures and how "creepy people" can distribute them, since she's played by Daryl Hannah, whose filmography includes a sizable number of nude scenes, not to mention the Playboy pictorial she did in 2003.
• Life Imitates Art: A wild 2022 case in Michigan followed this movie's plotline to an almost eerie degree (note: clicking the link is basically a spoiler for this movie). Many people commenting on the story in social media even mentioned it.
