Trivia / Slaughter to Prevail

Go To

  • Extremely Lengthy Creation: The road to KOSTOLOM was a long one. They started work on the album sometime during 2017-18 but due to heavy touring it got put on the back burner. The decentralized nature of the band (Alex, Evgeny, and Mike were in Russia and Jack Simmons was in the UK) made it hard to get everyone on the same page. They did release two new singles ("Agony" in 2019 and "Demolisher" in 2020) and had other songs in the works, but Sumerian thought that the band wasn't writing their best material. After sorting out their issues with Sumerian, then the COVID-19 Pandemic swept the world, making it hard to hit the studio (and in general slowing down music releases). KOSTOLOM eventually released in 2021.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: They had a strong showing when they toured Asia. Alex noted having over 500 people at some shows in China.
  • He Also Did: Alex has done a tremendous number of covers on YouTube, some of the most surprising of which may be two covers of Doom Eternal tracks With Lyrics. Composer Mick Gordon expressed approval, noting, "I'm not gonna say Alex is DOOM Guy, but I've never seen them in a room together," and the two are apparently collaborating.
  • The Merch: Jack Simmons runs Rising Merch, which sells merch of Slaughter to Prevail and many metal bands. Some of the more unique pieces of merch include Slaughter to Prevail x Hello Kitty shirts, axes, and perhaps being the only deathcore band to have official Gucci products. Yes, really. Alex also runs his own store where you can buy his own shirts, the Kid of Darkness comic book, and the Kid of Darkness mask.note
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: They have been unable to tour Europe (despite many attempts and Jack being from London) due to singer Alex Terrible once having a black sun tattoo and doing a photoshoot with a fascist Russian group in his youth. Despite having covered up his black sun tattoo and never holding any fascist ideologies (plus, it is doubtful Sumerian would have signed Slaughter to Prevail if they had known Alex had any ties to Nazi groups), many European promotions are wary of bringing Slaughter to Prevail to Europe. As late as 2020 the band was trying to get a European tour off the ground, but promoters are hesitant to book them as anti-facist groups threaten to protest their shows. Alex has gone on record saying that he was an idiot in his youth and deeply regrets doing that photoshoot, knowing that it cost him and his band many opportunities. This only applies to Europe, Slaughter to Prevail is still free to tour the rest of the world should a promoter book them and they get the necessary visas.
    • Seems to be averted as of 2024, as the band has completed a full headline European tour in January and February of that year. They are also booked to play on a few major metal festivals the following summer.
  • Screwed by the Network: Zigzagged with Sumerian. According to Alex, by mid 2019 they had several songs lined up but Sumerian thought they were punching below their weight. They eventually released “Agony” in late 2019. The band had a second single lined up, “Demolisher” to hype up their Asia tour and even had a live video recorded, but Sumerian didn’t think it would do too well. Alex got fed up and dropped “Demolisher” on his Youtube channel and it went viral damn near instantly. Jack confirmed that KOSTOLOM will be released via Sumerian.
  • What Could Have Been: Robert Brown might have eying to join the band as a full-time member. While he didn't mention Slaughter to Prevail by name, it was clear he was talking about issues he had with the band. Brown implied there was either Creative Differences or issues with Sumerian stopped him from joining.
