Trivia / Skylarking

Go To

  • Breakthrough Hit: "Dear God," though only released as a B-side at first, turned Skylarking into this in the U.S. when it became an unexpected hit on College Radio. The song did the same thing for its parent album when Geffen reissued it with "Dear God" on it.
  • Creator Backlash: Andy Partridge disliked the production of the album, due to his clashes with producer Todd Rundgren. He eventually came around, calling it "a summer's day baked into a cake" and issuing the remaster on his own label.
  • Hostility on the Set: Partridge and Rundgren constantly butted heads in the studio.
  • Troubled Production: Partridge fought so much with Todd Rundgren that he wondered if the band was actually breaking up. Colin Moulding actually did (very breifly) quit during the recording, over a clash with Partridge about a bass part.
