  • Actor-Inspired Element: Jet Li suggested that Trish fight the female assassin with help from Han.
  • Breakaway Pop Hit: Aaliyah's single "Try Again" was recorded for the movie. While the movie was a success, the song is far more memorable. It managed to top the Billboard 100 through sheer airplay alone, and years later is remembered as her Signature Song.
  • Friendship on the Set: Trish and Han's friendship was helped immensely by Jet Li and Aaliyah's real-life rapport and the close friendship that they formed during filming.
  • Hey, It's That Place!: The same golf course from Happy Gilmore is featured.
  • Pop-Culture Urban Legends: There's a false rumor that the kiss between Trish and Han was cut due to test audiences reacting negatively due to the mixed-race romance being too explict.
  • Sleeper Hit: The movie had no really notable names, as Jet Li was only just starting to emerge in America, and Aaliyah was known as a singer rather than an actress. Not to mention full of a mostly black and Asian cast. It debuted at #2 at the Box Office on its opening weekend and grossed $91 million worldwide.
  • Star-Making Role: For Jet Li in the English-speaking American film industry, along with Lethal Weapon 4.
  • Word of God: Rumor had it that the kiss between Trish and Han was cut due to anger at a mixed race kiss from test audiences. Jet Li claims they shot the scene two ways - one with the kiss and one with a hug. According to him, having Han kiss Trish right after seeing his father die resulted in Narm.
  • What Could Have Been: An alternate version of the scene after Han witnesses his father's suicide was filmed where he kisses Trish. They just hug in the finished film.
