  • Adored by the Network:
    • Before Josh was accused of sexual abuse, the show was praised to high heavens and was a serious cash cow for TLC.
    • Before the show's debut in 2008, several TV specials were also made about the family, showing the births of three of their children and the construction of their current home.
    • Inverted as of October 2016. TLC announced they are officially ceasing production on the show, but are producing an hour-long special on the family covering updates and addressing the allegations.
    • And back on again, with TLC giving Jessa and Jill a spin-off that features an astonishing amount of their sister-in-law Anna and her problems with Josh's infidelity while disregarding Josh's alleged abuse of his younger sisters.
    • And back off again, after being canceled following Josh’s arrest and ultimate conviction on child pornography charges in 2021.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The original series is no longer shown on reruns, with only a handful of episodes still available on YouTube. Other than iTunes, there aren't many places to watch it.
    • Some of the specials from the original show seem to have been wiped from existence such as "20 Years, 20 Duggars" or their "Say Yes to the Dress" episode.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor:
    • Josh was forced to resign from the show after his past history of sexually abusing his young sisters came to light, which also got the show canceled. Any attempts at Uncancelling the show were later permanently destroyed by Josh being convicted of possesing child pornography in late 2021.
    • Jill and her husband Derick got fired from Counting On after Derick made derogatory and transphobic remarks on Twitter towards a transgender minor who also had a show on TLC at the time.
