  • Banned in China: The Irish government banned the film thinking it might encourage "anarchic tendencies". The ban was only lifted in 2000.
  • Real-Life Relative: The Brothers' father, Sam "Frenchie" Marx, can be briefly seen sitting atop a pile of luggage on the pier after the Brothers disembark from the ship.
  • Recycled Script: The scene where the brothers all imitate Maurice Chevalier is adapted from a routine they had done in live theatre and an early short film, where they each pretended to be the same celebrity while auditioning for a talent agent.
  • Stillborn Franchise: According to TCM's Robert Osborne, a direct sequel was planned for this film that would continue the gangster theme. During the development of that film, Charles Lindbergh's son was kidnapped and killed by what was believed to be gang members and The Marx Brothers made Horse Feathers instead.
