Trivia / Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries

Go To

  • Approval of God: Differences from the novels notwithstanding, author Kerry Greenwood, who wrote the book series, absolutely loves this adaptation — particularly the casting of Essie Davis as Phryne. By Greenwood's own account, she took one look at Davis' audition and went "Her! Her! I want her!"
  • Creator-Chosen Casting: By her own account, author Kerry Greenwood took one look at Essie Davis' audition for Phryne Fisher and said "Her! Her! I want her!"
  • Dawson Casting: Phryne Fisher was born in 1900, bringing her in her late-20s at the moment the story is set. Essie Davis was in her early-40s when filming began. While Mrs. Davis is a great beauty, she still plays Miss Fisher with attitudes, facial expressions and style of speech more appropriate for middle age than for a younger one.
  • Edited for Syndication: When the series is shown on the UK Channel Alibi the episodes are reduced for timing cutting out scenes, for example in Raisins and Almonds when Dr. Mac creates the secret product the failed first attempt was deleted.
  • Reality Subtext: The truly remarkable chemistry between Phryne and Jack is helped considerably by the fact that Essie Davis and Nathan Page absolutely adore each other in real life.
