Trivia / McCartney II

Go To

  • Better Export for You: The initial US and Canadian releases of the album included a bonus one-sided single featuring the live version of "Coming Up" that had been a North American hit.
  • Creator-Driven Successor: While no song on this album does a Call-Back to Paul's first self-titled record, both of them are mainly recorded by Paul alone in his farm.
  • Permanent Placeholder: "Frozen Jap" was meant to be a Working Title, with McCartney using it as a starting point to come up with a more ornate name evocative of a wintry scene in East Asia. However, he ended up leaving the name as-is, which drew controversy from Japanese audiences, both due to "Jap" being considered a racial slur outside the UK and due to them reading the title as a reference to his recent arrest in Tokyo for marijuana possession.

    • Compare the opening lines of this album's "Waterfalls" ("Don't go jumping waterfalls, please keep to the lake") to the chorus of TLC's later hit "Waterfalls" ("Don't go chasing waterfalls, please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to"). Paul himself has pointed this out many times.
    • "Nice Age" by Yellow Magic Orchestra references the song with the line "she's coming up like a flower." The song's parent album, ×∞Multiplies, released a month after McCartney II.
    • "Temporary Secretary" is a common subject for jokes in SiIvaGunner rips, mashing the song up with various video game tracks.
  • What Could Have Been: Due to the amount of songs recorded for the album, it was originally conceived as a double album before Paul decided to ditch some tracks. "Darkroom" was almost cut out.
