Trivia / Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence

Go To

  • California Doubling: Despite being set in New York, filming clearly took place in Los Angeles.
  • Money-Making Shot: Cordell punching through his coffin and picking up his badge in one of the trailers.
  • Refitted for Sequel: Katie's paralysis was meant for Laurene in the previous film.
  • Troubled Production: Problems started even before pre production began for Larry Cohen and William Lustig. This is due to when the original concept of the movie; a black lead detective investigating murders in a Harlem hospital, had to be drastically changed. The reason for the change was being the Japanese investors who helped fund the movie did not want a black lead in this movie and instead wanted to have Robert Davi from the previous film return as the lead. Lustig fought against changing the concept but ultimately had to cave in. As a result to they had to find a way to fit Davi into the movie as a lead and in Lustig words describing it " Suddenly we had a script that didn't make any sense". This only got worse because Cohen refuse to do a rewrite of the script unless he got additional pay for it. The producers refused to do so, and as a result Cohen did not conduct a rewrite of the script and Lustig had to try and refit it as much as he could to make the changes on his own. When director William Lustig's rough cut came in at only 51 minutes, he refused to shoot the additional scenes the producers wanted and quit the project; the balance of the picture was directed by co-producer Joel Soisson. Expert editor Michael Eliot was brought in to re-edit the movie because of the behind the scenes problems and short running time of William Lustig's rough cut. This is why there are several scenes in the movie which are very obviously outtakes of scenes from Maniac Cop 2.
