- For almost ten years after the publication of Lost Souls, Brite was enthusiastic about a future novel starring Steve and Ghost and often discussed potential ideas on his personal website. The book never got off the ground, and eventually Brite retired from publishing.
- No less than Samuel L. Jackson purchased the rights to Lost Souls shortly after it became a bestseller and expressed an interest in adapting it for a movie or television series, but the project never got off the ground.
