• Creator-Driven Successor: Tokuno's last manga, New Game!, was published in iyashikei paradise Manga Time Kirara, yet it got some flack for having iyashikei-unfriendly story arcs where moe girls are pitted against each other in competition and have to suffer emotional losses. For this, his follow-up, he's produced a story which is nothing but moe girls being pitted against each other and forced to suffer emotional losses. In retrospect, the competition arcs in New Game! seem like a dry run for IDOL x IDOL STORY!
• Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: At the end of chapter 5, Misora (Mimi's little sister) asks Tokuno's hedgehog avatar which idols are going to pass. He replies, "I haven't decided yet ... (I know some that are going to fail, though.)"
