Trivia / Harry Hill's TV Burp

Go To

  • Colbert Bump: Harry wrote in his memoir that shows like Pineapple Dance Studio, Hole in the Wall and Freaky Eaters got a boost when they appeared on the show.
  • Edited for Syndication: Some episodes have been edited when being shown on Gold to remove outdated material (see Values Dissonance on the YMMV page).
  • Inspiration for the Work: Harry got the idea for the series when he filled in for Garry Bushell, television critic for The Sun, when he was on holiday. He enjoyed making fun of the week's television so much he devised a series out of it.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • In fear of having to pay a lot of channels royalty money (despite the show following Fair Use laws), the show can never be aired again on ITV. It hasn't stopped viewers uploading episodes on the internet, mostly because the DVDs released have been compilation episodes and clip shows.
    • The only channel in the UK that has aired the show is Gold however, who broadcast all of the series on a regular loop.
    • Before Gold got the rights, the show had a temporary run on the UK version of Cartoon Network. Whilst the show itself is family orientated, the CN airings, however, were edited to be more 'kid-friendly', so any scenes/gags with suggestive material or humor were removed.
  • Referenced by...: The ITV and STV announcers outroing the show over the closing credits sometimes referenced Harry's gags, especially if they were digs at the show he was leading into. They seemed to like "The Many Faces of Louis Walsh" (compiled here) for this in particular.
  • Working Title: Shout at the Telly, Up the Flagpole and (funnily enough) Gogglebox.
