- Creator Backlash: Joseph Staten, the franchise's lead writer, strongly disliked the plot point that Sergeant Johnson is immune to the Flood thanks to a neurological condition named Boren's Syndrome, which he supposedly contracted while handling a crate of Plasma Grenades. Later works would Retcon this by revealing that Boren's Syndrome is a cover story intended to hide his involvement in the Spartan-I project, and that he escaped the Flood through sheer combat aptitude alone.
- Tuckerization: Boren's Syndrome is named after Brannon Boren, who was one of the early architects of the Halo Expanded Universe thanks to his involvement in the Microsoft Franchise Team.
