Trivia / Grezzo 2

Go To

  • Colbert Bump: The first demo remained relatively unknown for quite some time. Thanks to the praise received by Parliamo di Videogiochi, a well-known Italian channel of videogame reviewers, the game breached into a larger audience.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: In 2015, Twitch put Grezzo 2 on its list of prohibited games... together with Grezzo 1. It's common knowledge for those familiar with the game that Grezzo 1 wasn't, and will never be, published online.
  • Cut Song: There are many songs still present in the game files that are not used in any level, or are used in Dummied Out levels, so that they can only be listened when they're accessed through the console.
  • Dummied Out:
    • The original ending of Grezzo 2, the author calling the main character and inviting him to kill himself to start the game anew, is still present in the game files. It's a map that can only be accessed through console commands.
    • Several discharged or still-under-construction maps are still found within the game. They can be accessed through the console or in the Multiplayer section.
    • If the cheat for obtaining every weapon is used, there will be a slot 0 section containing both discharged weapons that normally can't be found, or the same weapons found in other slots, although with wrong names.
  • Meaningful Release Date: The first and the last complete versions of such blasphemous and outrageous game were released... on December 25th, "Jesus' Birthday", for a "true evil Christmas".
  • Missing Episode: A "Grezzo 1" exists, it was made by the author in 2004 during his high school days. It had the same levels of the original Doom, only with different sounds and sprites for the enemies. It featured many in-jokes understandable only by him and few other people, so he felt it wasn't worth being published online.
  • Missing Trailer Scene: The first trailer features many maps, weapons and enemies that were already missing in the first demo. The author explained it was made on a very early version of Grezzo 2.
  • In Memoriam: A very unexpected one dedicated to Osvaldo Paniccia, a deceased Italian amateaur painter, who appears in level "Un magico Natale" ("A magic Christmas") in a small art gallery, as an (almost) invincible NPC throwing at you his own paintings which instantly kill you. After many players kept asking how to defeat him, the author admitted he's not supposed to be killed: he's the only person he inserted in game not to mock him, but to sincerely honour him. The fact that upon entering the art gallery a melancholic piano-track suddenly starts should be a give away.
  • Sleeper Hit: The author stated that he made the game mostly out of boredom, only for himself and some friends, and updated it online because he hoped to entertain some more people. He never expected the game to become so popular in Italy and abroad, especially considering the game is mostly based on inside-jokes about Italian trash and pop culture, that are totally incomprehensible by foreigners.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The free-roaming level "Porco dio a Perugia" is actually based on a popular Doom WAD called Doom Center. The author mentioned the possibility of creating a scaled model of the actualy city of Perugia, but it wasn't made.
      • For the sequel, the author and their team were able to scan the entirety of Perugia as they once hoped, recreating a near accurate sandbox zone to the real one, with accessible rooms.
    • The author mentioned he would have tried to add more playable characters in the game, with differentiated weaponry, which ultimately weren't added. They were supposed to be named:
