Trivia / Escaflowne: The Movie

Go To

  • Dueling Dubs: As with the Funimnation re-release of the TV series, a new Dub was recorded to replace the Ocean Group Dub from the Bandai release (which continued the preexisting debates about which version's superior). As with the TV show's re-release, Funimation included the Ocean Group Dub as a Bonus Feature.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: In a sense, the Movie's very existence. Doing an Escaflowne film was obviously not part of the original plan for the series (and especially not after it bombed in the Japanese ratings). It only came about because of the unexpected success and popularity of Escaflowne's international release.
    • Similarly, because a Movie had not been planned, Shoji Kawamori's admitted doing a film adaptation left them with the choices of either coming up with a new story (not easy given the show's definitive conclusion), or do a compilation film. Ultimately, the decision was made to take a third option: Do a new story in the context of an alternate universe.
  • The Original Darrin: Yukari, at least for the Ocean Group dub. Yukari was first voiced by Willow Johnson at the start of the show, but was later replaced by Saffron Henderson (she was also the voice of Eriya). Johnson returned as Yukari for the Movie, however.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Millerna changed voice actresses from Mayumi Iizuka to Aki Takeda.
    • For some reason, Van's German dub voice actor, Björn Schalla, didn't reprise his role in the movie and was replaced by Robin Kahnmeyer.
    • For the Ocean Group dub, Shasta (who notoriously fell victim to this repeatedly during the dubbing of the series) gets a fourth actor: Trevor Devall.
    • Young Van was voiced by Andrew Francis in the Ocean Group's dub of TV series, but was changed to Jocelyn Loewen (Merle) for the Movie.
