  • Author's Saving Throw:
    • When criticized for some problematic aspects of the trans character Lena Dauman's portrayal, Swery issued a public apology and promised to rewrite the scenes in question to be more sensitive and inclusive towards the subject. As it is, the patch resulted in certain more questionable lines about Lena having their audio removed and becoming subtitle-only.
    • Zig-zagged with the game's notorious framerate issues, which SWERY initially denied would be fixed, but have since seen occasional patches to make them more consistent.
  • The Other Darrin: Forrest Kaysen here is voiced by an uncredited actor, rather than his original actor Doug Boyd.
  • Role Reprise: Despite having retired from voice acting, and despite the game coming out 10 years after the original, Jeff Kramer returns to voice York and Zach.
  • Sequel Gap: The sequel was announced 9 years after the original came out.
  • Trans Character, Cis Actor: The trans woman character Lena Dauman was voiced by the late Billy Kametz, a cis male voice actor.
  • Troubled Production: An interview with Swery had him reveal that Deadly Premonition 2 was plagued by developmental issues. For example, he wanted the sequel to be a very different experience, whereas the producer wanted to make it a direct sequel that was very similar to the original gameplaywise. He also mentions that the game was negatively impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic and the transition to remote-only work for the last few months of development, which made communication and bug-fixing very difficult with some parts of the production team completely ignoring him and his various bug reports, leading to a release that was very glitchy and ran poorly.
