- Keep Circulating the Tapes: Only the first two seasons had wide DVD releases. The third was only available as Manufacture-on-Demand while the fourth still hasn't been made available.
- Playing Against Type: When this series started, Harry Anderson was coming off a long run of playing goofy single guys in shows like Cheers and Night Court. Here he played a husband and father who could be silly but stayed largely grounded.
- Real Song Theme Tune: Billy Joel's "You May Be Right" (sung by Southside Johnny) was used as the series' theme on TV. This was replaced with a non-descript guitar track for the home-media release.
- Screwed by the Network: The show pulled in good ratings during its first two seasons. Then CBS moved it to a new night during the third, which is when ratings began to drop. Then it was moved to a Friday Night Death Slot during the fourth season, which spelled doom.
- Technology Marches On: Kenny tries to get Dave to use a fax machine to submit his work faster. Since then, e-mail and messaging apps have become the go-to method of sending documents back and forth.
