• Colbert Bump: Children of a Lesser God received renewed attention and interest in 2022 following the success of CODA, which also stars Marlee Matlin and features similar themes about relationships between the deaf and the hearing. William Hurt coincidentally passing away at the same time that CODA was cleaning up at awards ceremonies may have been a contributing factor.
• Disabled Character, Disabled Actor: Marlee Matlin, who would become the first (and for 35 years, the only) deaf performer to win an Academy Award for her performance as Sarah.
