Trivia / Checkmate, Lincolnites!

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Atun-Shei plays both Johnny Reb and Billy Yank, who are always seated directly across from one another.
  • Breakthrough Hit: Many fans of the Atun-Shei Films channel first took notice of it thanks to the Checkmate, Lincolnites! series. Atun-Shei acknowledged it as such in "So You Want to be a YouTuber (feat. Everyone)", where he notes that his subscription count increased exponentially after it began.
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: In "TARIFFS and TAXES: The REAL Cause of the CIVIL WAR?!", Billy Yank asserts that BreadTube is "apparently just Liberals who make YouTube videos".note  This wrong on two counts; the first being that BreadTube is a loose coalition of online Socialist influencers who were created specifically to combat the increasingly reactionary "Anti-SJW" era of YouTube back in 2016 by creating content very similar to Anti-SJW creators but which espoused leftist views. What makes this double-wrong is that "liberal" to Socialists and other leftists means a right-leaning Centrist who doesn't actually contribute to any positive change in their country, and is usually used as a pejorative in leftist circles. Atun-Shei was probably mistakenly (or deliberately) using the definition of "Liberal" used by American Conservatives, meaning anyone to the left of John McCain.
  • Descended Creator: In addition to creating the series, Andrew Rakich also plays its two main characters, Johnny Reb and Billy Yank.
  • Inspiration for the Work: In "So You Want to be a YouTuber (feat. Everyone)", Atun-Shei credits ContraPoints as the inspiration for the series, most notably Natalie's style of having Socratic debates consisting of several distinct fictional characters with unique personalities.
  • What Could Have Been: Andrew Rakich talks in this video about how he had to cut a scene from episode 9 for grinding the pacing to a halt (and generally being bad) which would have gone into meta-fictional detail about how he himself has a personal stake in debunking the Lost Cause in terms of fame and self-esteem after become so heavily associated with doing so.
