Trivia / Beach Boys' Party!

Go To

  • Christmas Rushed: Capitol requested that the band record an album for release during the holiday season. Pet Sounds was far from ready, a Christmas album had already been done and a concert album had also been done. The next idea in the list was to do a party album. The album was recorded within four weeks in September 1965 and was released on November 8. The album still managed to reach #6 in the US and #3 in the UK, with "Barbara Ann" reaching #2 and #3 in those countries respectively, but nowadays many fans dismiss the album as quickly-recorded filler that was only done to buy time for Brian Wilson to finish Pet Sounds.
  • Cut Song: A lot of songs were recorded which were not included in the album. Several of them were included in the Uncovered and Unplugged release. Those included "Ruby Baby", "One Kiss Led to Another", "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", "Blowin' in the Wind", "Riot in Cell Block No. 9" and more, as well as a Bob Dylan parody called "The Artist".
  • Throw It In!: Dean Torrence dropped by for a visit when the group was busy recording "Barbara Ann". On a lark, they had Dean do a take on lead vocals; that take ended up being the released version.
