• Cast the Runner-Up: Franz Drameh was considered for the role of Moses. He wound up playing Dennis.
• Dawson Casting: Generally averted as most of the members of the street gang are played by teenage actors. However, John Boyega was 18 or 19 when it was filmed, which makes The Reveal that Moses is 15 a bit more surprising.
• Enforced Method Acting: Joe Cornish attempted this with the actors who played Probs and Mayhem. To make their reactions to the monsters more realistic, he made sure they didn't see the aliens until the first scene their characters encounter them. Unfortunately, they burst out laughing and Cornish had to settle for the fake expressions of awe you see in the film.
• No Stunt Double: Simon Howard did the jump where Biggz jumps from a walkway to the roof of a van.
• Screwed by the Network: Very arguably a case of this for the North American release by Screen Gems. After a successful test screening in 25 markets (22 markets had an excellent rating, the other three had a very good rating), they proceeded to dump the film into just 11 markets with no advertising, no website and a trailer released just a week before opening. Even when the film added theaters, it was mostly in markets already playing the film. Also, reports on new markets aren't even known (this is usually reported weeks in advance).
