• Awesome, Dear Boy: Sarah Gadon lobbied hard for the role of Elizabeth, finding the script very similar to the film Roman Holiday. The latter is one of her favourite films.
• California Doubling: As the real Ritz in London has been renovated, those scenes were shot in Brussels. The Hotel Metropole there resembles the 1940s London Ritz.
• The Cast Show Off: Sarah Gadon is a trained dancer and gets to show off those skills in the Lindy Hop scene.
• The Danza: Jack Reynor as Jack.
• Dawson Casting: Sarah Gadon was twenty seven playing a nineteen year old^note Elizabeth's age is never stated in the film but she was nineteen on VE Night. Bel Powley was twenty two and her princess was fourteen on the night the film takes place.
• Fake Brit:
  • Canadian Sarah Gadon as Elizabeth.
  • Irish Jack Reynor as Jack.
• Missing Trailer Scene: The trailer has an alternate take of Margaret arriving home at Buckingham Palace. In the trailer she says "I'm back! Coo-ee!", whereas in the final film she says "coo-ee!" first.
• Reality Subtext:
  • The scenes showing the crowds celebrating outside Buckingham Palace were shot on the 69th anniversary of VE Night.
  • Sarah Gadon says her grandmother served in the Women's Auxilliary Air Force during World War II - and had enlisted because Princess Elizabeth did.
