With a celebration of 100 years of entertainment comes many tears as well as laughter in Wish.

  • In "At All Costs", Asha and Magnifico sing to the wishes about how they want to protect them from being hurt in the wrong hands. Each of their vocal performances is so achingly earnest that it becomes heartbreaking for both of them with what happens later on.
  • Magnifico revealing to Asha that the wishes that he sealed will never be granted, including Sabino's, who only wanted to play his lute and inspire people. Asha is very distressed listening to his excuse as to why he won't grant it and runs off in tears.
  • Asha feeling concerned about the people losing their memories of what their wishes are as she watches Magnifico take two wishes from two other people, and then granting a third to a random person. Magnifico at the end dismisses her as his new apprentice while announcing he will be keeping her family's wishes forever.
  • When Asha reveals to both her mother and grandfather during dinner at home that their wishes, won’t be granted by the sorcerer. Sabino refuses to listen and doesn't believe her, while ordering her to leave the table, making her run away from her home out of frustration and sadness.
  • Magnifico crushing the three people's wishes for questioning him about the wishes despite them having been grateful to him. As demonstrated when Magnifico crushed Asha's mother's wish, the three people immediately find themselves feeling grief-stricken as their wishes are lost, with no idea why.
  • Asha tried to help her Saba and the rest of Rosas but feels she just made everything worse. She starts to tear up when they're forced to flee the kingdom and regrets causing everyone to be in danger, including the ones she loves, and apologizes for failing.
  • A deleted scene had Sabino sing "A Wish Worth Making" after Asha helps reclaim his wish, with Victor Garber giving a sincere, heartbreaking performance as he feels the thrill of finally getting his wish back.
  • When Asha's mother gets her wish crushed, she cries out and grabs her chest. Afterwards, she needs help walking and getting onto one of the horses to escape Magnifico, and barely speaks until the family is on a boat fleeing the kingdom: "I know this feeling. This is grief." Her quiet anguished tone at losing her wish is bad enough, but then one considers that her husband had died five years before the movie... It adds another heartbreaking layer of context to her line.
  • The Reveal that Simon was the one who revealed Asha being the one who summoned Star from the sky is very heartbreaking. His friends (Dahlia, Gabo, Dario, Safi, Hal, and Bazeema), including Asha and Star are all hurt by his betrayal.
    • As Magnifico reveals his wish to Simon in being a "courageous loyal knight", Gabo mutters that he’s not a "loyal friend", shows how hurt he and the others are by his betrayal.
    • While Simon is getting his wish as a knight, he screams painfully while Magnifico is brainwashing him, horrifying Amaya as his friends including Star watch him in both horror and concern for him despite having told Magnifico about Asha and Star.
    • After Simon returned from the forest after being freed from Magnifico’s brainwashing, Asha along with Dahlia with even Star and Valentino give him a Disapproving Look, which shows how much that they were hurt by his betrayal.
  • During "Knowing What I Know Now", Amaya comes down to find Asha and her friends getting ready to go against Magnifico. While it seems like she might try to stop their plans, she joins in the song, admitting that she can no longer stand back and watch her husband turn into more of a monster. Nothing changes the fact that Magnifico was her husband and she had a loving marriage with him until the day he decides to hurt her. There's nothing more heartbreaking than seeing your spouse, the man you loved fall so far, and it feels like a part of you just died.
Amaya: The good in him, I've watched it melt/I was fooled by the love I felt…
  • Magnifico having captured Asha while successfully having gotten Star as he forced her to watch her new friend is absorbed by the malevolent sorcerer is hard to watch.
  • In A Recipe for Adventure, Magnifico has a moment in the climax where he yells at Star, asking them where they were when he was young and needed them. He then tells Asha that without her interference he'd have continued to believe he needed his kingdom's trust—and that the closest thing to happiness he could feel was being near the wishes, implying his own wish was broken in his backstory and he never tried to gain a new one, he literally could not feel happiness, or he used to be able to feel it but lost the ability along the way.
