Tear Jerker / Nobuhiko Takada

Go To

  • Takada's debut in MMA. Until the very moment he clinched Rickson Gracie with his brand new fingerless gloves, Nobuhiko had been the face of the UWF-i, one of the most popular pro wrestlers of the time, and a guy whom the Japanese crowds believed to be the strongest martial artist in the world, who would defeat his Brazilian foe the same way he had kicked down and submitted Vader, Koji Kitao and Gary Albright in order to recover the honor which had been lost by Yoji Anjo in Los Angeles. However, reality fell over everybody with all its weight when Gracie slammed him down on the mat and Takada's face went Oh, Crap!. He had been living a lie, a masquerade, a fake aura of real fighting which was not more real than any other pro wrestler's antics, and he knew from the start that he was no match for Rickson - but he had no more alternatives, no more than step the ring and see his career die. At that moment, Rickson transitioned from the mount and locked an armbar. Audiences went wild, believing until the end that their hero would pull a miraculous escape and would get up to still fighting... and then Takada tapped out. While Rickson got a cartoonish giant trophy and celebrated with his brothers before the confused and livid crowds, Takada still lied on the ground, eyes wide open, knowing that his dream had ended.
  • Takada's reaction to Koji Kitao's death in 2019. Even although they were rivals, he revealed he had been thinking about meeting Kitao some day to talk about their past careers.
