- Li's Freak Out when Zenko steals his hat. It just emphasizes that Li just hit Rock Bottom and just wants to keep the little he has.
- Iroh's despair over Zuko's disappearance. It's even enough that Katara who hates Zuko, is sad over it. Iroh has no way of knowing if his nephew even alive.
- Li's utter horror over the kiln children. Two children were killed so gruesomely and Li still sees their spirits there in the kiln. No wonder he's moved to tears.
- Professor Zei had to live through many of his promising students getting disappeared by the Dai Li and himself barely escaped that fate.
- Jet's life sucked. He loses his parents due to the Fire Nation and his home and his found family through his actions.
- The utter Gut Punch that Li doesn't even recognize Iroh when he sees him. Despite finally finding his dear nephew, Zuko is still effectively gone.
- Kuchisake-Onna's past. Her lover disfigured her and stole her children to marry other women. She was Driven to Suicide and turned into a Woman in White. Then her lover murdered her children by burning them alive so he won't he held back by them. No wonder she's vengeful.
- The Kuchisake-Onna's genuine sympathy and her warning that Li will never have peace as long as his abuser lives.
- Li finally finds out the truth of who he is. After going close to so many people who lost everything to the Fire Nation, he is horrified to find out who he truly is.
