Their Guiding Light

  • Mashu comforting Rashid when he just lost his mother in the 4th chapter, and you can tell she was really grief-stricken to what just happen.
  • The death of Tashika and her parents the 15th chapter. It took a real toll on both Arturia and Gawain, the two Chaldean Knights that Tashika and her family slowly grew to respect and look up to.
    • Arturia giving Takisha and her parents a burial along with the other fallen. Even after completing, Arturia remains to continue mourning for Takisha.
      • Also, the part when Arturia cried in Shirou's arms.
  • At the 17th chapter, you can tell Arturia is really furious at the Lion King for forgetting the existence of her most loyal knight, Bedivere.
    • Also, in the same chapter, when Arturia, in tears and horror, cried out to Mordred, who was mortally wounded by the Lion King. Had Gabby not burned her last command seal, Mordred would've outright died.

Season 2

Fragment 24

  • David had been approached by others in Chaldea with questions regarding to his "son". But no matter what, he keeps denying that the Solomon they faced was his real son, but someone or something evil wearing his son's face.
  • David mentioned that his history of loving Bathsheba was his biggest disgrace he committed during his reign that cost him dearly, but he never regretted it. He even said that he would make that mistake a thousand times over if it was the only way to bring Solomon, his rightful son, to his life. Also counts as a heartwarming moment.
  • Da Vinci tried to convince Roman to tell David the truth. He refuses, since he wanted to keep his true identity a secret not just from David, but everyone else in Chaldea. However, Dr. Roman promises to Da Vinci that he will tell his father the truth when the time comes. For anyone who finished Part 1, this is heartbreaking.

  • Amakusa, Jeanne, and Joan leave the forest to return to town but wind up walking by the ocean. Joan starts crying because it's her dream to see the ocean and is overwhelmed with emotion.

Fragment 30

  • Kiyohime is revealed the truth of why her past few weeks were going terribly.
    • She was tricked into drinking a drink infused with a special elixir that removed her Mad Enhancement. By doing so, Gabby and the others believed that there would be less collateral damages once she learns the truth.
    • She is flat out told from Gabby that Gudao already loves someone else (Mashu) and not her.
  • Even without her Mad Enhancement, she still fills with rage, but slowly falters into sadness. It worsens when Andersen speaks up.
Andersen: Chasing loveā€¦ chasing fantasiesā€¦ chasing someone else to their demise because you can't accept they didn't want to be with you in the first place! Is that what you want to do to Gudao!? Kill him and jeopardize humanity for your selfish infatuation with an Anchin that never existed to begin with!?
  • Kiyohime watched quietly as a happy Julius Caesar and Cleopatra walked down the hallway together.
  • It hurt to admit it, but Kiyohime decided to respect Gudao's choice. She wishes for both him and Mashu to find happiness together.
    • She still hasn't forgiven Gabby and Andersen, and both of them accept this fault. Kiyohime slapped Gabrielle hard as an early punishment.

  • Gabby's utter defeat against Valeria Delaqua, Supervisor of the Furniture Department, in front of all the Servants of Chaldea.
    • Gabby refused to give up at the match she can't win, which got her pretty beat up. Even some of her friends begged her to quit before it got any worse. Even Kiyohime, the one who started the fighting competition as a punishment for Gabby, grew concernd about the situation.
    • If it weren't for Andersen casting an quick reinforcing spell on the fallen Gabby to protect her from receiving the full force of a stylized wrestling move, she would have gotten worse injuries. And even with the spell, this blow is what finally breaks Gabby, leaving her completely unable to stand and coughing Blood from the Mouth.
    • Gabby's first reaction to the fight being called is to cry her eyes out at her own perceived weakness. It's a deeply sobering sight for everyone present, especially Kiyohime.
  • Kiyohime apologized to the hospitalized Gabby about what happened during the match and decided not to use her second golden ticket.

Fragment 43

  • It was heavily implied that Serenity confessed to Gabrielle, but she kindly rejected her. Gabby starts feeling terrible she made Serenity sad while Serenity is almost in tears. It goes downhill fast and both of them wind up crying uncontrollably while Rena can do nothing to help.
    • She views the Assassin like a little sister.

Fragment 44

  • Mordred overheard Jekyll's drunken confession about her and misinterpreted it. She got really upset when she believed that Jekyll sees her as a nuisance to him and she refused to ever see him again. Arash felt responsible for what happened between them.

Fragment 45

  • A depressed Mordred had been seeking comfort in Arturia, who is trying her best to cheer her up. Arthur finds her on Arturia's bed wrapped like a child.

Redemption from Sin

    • Gilgamesh is reunited with Enkidu, but something is wrong. After chasing him through the woods, Enkidu turns on Gilgamesh and tries to kill him.

    • Gudao's group finds Siduri, who had turned into a Lahmu. Gudao takes the still clueless Mashu away as Gilgamesh has one final talk with his secretary. As he's about to mercy kill her, he stops and lets her go free.
      • Lahmu!Siduri's last act as a sentient being is to save Kingu from his own minions once Tiamat betrays him and takes the Grail, paying back her king's kindness and then dying offscreen between chapters.
  • Chapter 13
    • Ana, now somehow turned into Gorgon, sacrifices herself against Tiamat to allow the almost completely defeated Chaldeans to escape.

  • Watching Ana's final memories are sad through and through.
  • Medusa runs to the ocean to be alone with her thoughts.
    • She contemplates suicide for a very brief moment, but thankfully throws that idea aside.
    • Stheno and Euryale comfort her as best as they can and she winds up crying when she realizes how much they really care.

Fragment 67

  • Jeanne Alter Santa Lily's entire Please, Don't Leave Me reaction just as the deployed team from Chaldea wrap up their mission and prepare to head home. It tugs at the heartstrings.

Fragment 69

  • We finally learn why Gabby refuses to be intimate with anyone and has friend-zoned every character we've seen show interest in her - every time she got into a serious relationship pre-Chaldea, it ended badly and the preceding friendship was destroyed. She would rather surround herself with Platonic Life-Partners than try to find a lover ever again, and it's among the various things causing her to finally melt down.

Fragment 70

  • The chapter starts with Hundred Face flashing back to her final moments in life, how she had almost completely lost her sense of self despite becoming Hassan-i-sabbah for the express purpose of conquering her severe Multiple Personality Disorder by assuming a very singular title. As she sinks into confusion and self-loathing, hating the woman she sees in the mirror, King Hassan appears in the room. As much as he's there to execute her for dishonoring her title (and visibly angry about it), it almost feels like there's an element of pity in his timing, as well.

Who We Are

  • Gabby's apparent death.
  • Roman's decision to join the fight. He knows his only option is to sacrifice himself, and he doesn't want to. Just... gah!
    • His utter shock and shame when David confesses he suspected his true identity for long, because Roman was afraid to reveal to his father this good-for-nothing human was related to him. Turns to sweet and fuzzy when David tells Solomon how proud he is of him, and how happy he was to get to know him.
      • When he finally makes it to Goetia and assumes his true form for the battle, he has a moment of hope when he wonders if his restored power as the Grand Caster would be enough to win the day without sacrificing himself. Then Goetia proves himself to be stronger than even King Solomon at his best, and he realizes that he has no other choice.
  • After losing Gabrielle, Mashu, and Roman, Gudao totally breaks down.
  • David's reaction when he realizes his son sacrificed himself to take Goetia down.
    • Right after this, Anishka tries to comfort him by pointing Gabrielle wasn't dead, so there is still a chance of Roman being safe and okay, right? For those who saw this end, chances are high that you're already sobbing your eyes out.
    • The harsh, cold truth when everyone meets again in Chaldea: not only was Solomon the only true casualty, he can't be resummoned, and he was aware that his was a suicide mission. David's grief is already painful to watch but Nursery Rhyme's bawling is outright awful.

Equilibrium

  • The horror when Gudao and Gabby tried to contact with their parents again when there's a situation going on the UN... and received nothing...

Season 4

Fragment 77

  • The flashback to Marie's execution.

Fragment 80

  • Shiki's wandering around Tokyo with other Servants, when the question of whether she's back to her own timeline is answered in the most brutal way possible: she isn't, which she discovers by seeing the mortal Shiki, Mikiya and the family butler Akitaka. Worse still, Mana, the mortal Shiki's daughter, is also there. Shiki swallows her pain, but she still seethes that she helped save humanity and in exchange she remains trapped in a foreign timeline.

Fragment 83

  • Nightingale's flashback to after Goetia's defeat. Medea is absolutely heartbroken and enraged about Naomi being comatose, angrily accusing the Berserker of hurting her best friend and demanding to be allowed to heal her. Nightingale tries to tell her that she did the best she could and that Medea is needed elsewhere, but the Caster loses it and outright tries to attack her. Nightingale is able to stop her with her Noble Phantasm, but it's sobering to see Medea so torn up.
    • As Nightingale walks away from Medea, she hears the Caster's wails and sadly notes that of all the heart pains, this is the one that she cannot heal.

Season 5

Fragment 96

  • Crossing over with Nightmare Fuel, Berserker of El Dorado breaking Gudao's arm upon learning of Achilles' presence. Even so, he refuses to use the Mad Enhancement-suppressing potion on Penthesilea, remembering the horrible effects it had on Kiyohime.

Fragment 98

  • Seeing the duel between Penthesilea and Achilles though the Berserker's own eyes once again mixes tear jerker and nightmare fuel. From seeing her triumph at her own take down of the one who wronged her so at Troy, to then watch helplessly as her own madness enhanced self does things that by the still sane part of her mind admits are no better than what caused Penthesilea's grudge in the first place and then lash out with the intent to kill at Hector, one of the few allies and friends she has in the wake of Fragment 96. The horror by the time of Chaldea's intervention in the fight that Penthesilea has and her nearly broken pride (the defining aspect of her legend that admitted her to the throne) really drives the impending sense of hopelessness that she feels throughout nearly all the remainder of the Fragment.

Fragment 104

  • This fragment drives home hard that the Meltryllis summoned by Chaldea is a different person than the one in Seraphinx. She's cold and dismissive towards her Masters and her allied Servants, and their attempts to be kind to her or act like they know her simply irritate her. It gets to the point that Gabby loses her temper and calls her out for how cold she's acting towards those who care about her.
    • Melt herself feels like Chaldea is unfairly expecting her to be her other self rather than accepting her as she is now. As cold as she is, her plight of feeling like she's in another's shadow is understandable.
  • Irisveil's description of receiving the Memorial Essence of her alternate self. Even if it worked out for the best, it still sounds... unpleasant. It begs the question how EMIYA was able to weather the essences of his Alter self and probably several alternate timelines of his life as Shirou.
"It felt like I was being possessed. My husband said the same... The memories didn't feel like mine at first. The emotions, feelings, sights... It was overwhelming. The blackouts were constant. I was crippled for a day, and it took much longer to sort everything out. It was as if another person had merged with me, screaming to convince me that every memory I couldn't believe was true. They were vivid. They weren't lies, but I felt like my mind was tearing apart."
    • At the end of the Fragment, Melt finally gets the Memorial Essence of Seraphinx... and it turns out that Irisveil wasn't exaggerating. We get a vivid description of the agony that the Alter-Ego goes through as the memories of her Alternate Self flood through her. Making things worse, Melt starts spasming and lashing out uncontrollably... and ends up hurting Anishka with her bladed legs.

The Lost Shards

Shard 6

  • It's revealed that Da Vinci really did love Roman, to the point she had tried to consummate their relationship the night before the assault on the Timeless Temple, only to be turned down. Roman actually runs away from Da Vinci, who grumbles she'll have to force his hand after they won.

Shard 29

  • Despite the Lighter and Softer nature of this fic, the invasion of Chaldea is still going to happen.
