- Despite feverish and not knowing he got there, Li manages to both survive and escape Azula on ostrich-horsse until Than and Ying find him.
- Than and Ying are refugees with nothing to their name, fleeing the Fire Nation. They still take in Li, knowing of his Fire Nation heritage the moment they saw him, just because they didn't want to abandon a hurt child. That sort of kindness takes balls.
- Roulan remaining calm and helping Ying give birth despite her lack of midwife experience.
- Li performing his first exorcism and finally firebending again.
- Jet actually admitting his mistakes and owning up to what he done.
- Li loophole abusing the Kuchisake-Onna's demands to burn her children's murderer to death by having the murderer's records of existence burned to ashes and burning the man's face with his own fireworks.
- Li successfully bargining with Kuchisake-Onna twice, knowing that she could easily kill him. He still stands his ground and gets her to agree to his terms.
