Don't be sad, Ali. You're strong!
For all its awesome, hilarious, comforting and creepy scenes, Agent Ali also has its gut-wrenching moments in the series.

General

  • Ali's house life after Aliya's death. His father became distant from him; unable to move on from the grief of losing his wife, getting consumed in his work as an escape. This resulted in Ali feeling neglected by him.
  • Rizwan and Djin's student-mentor connection. As Dos mentioned, Rizwan did not only see him as mentor, but as a father figure, which makes sense as to why Rizwan was shocked to find that Djin betrayed M.A.T.A and became Uno.
  • Just how absent in Ali's life is Dr. Ghazali to the point his son is able to go on MATA missions for an entire day until the middle of the night and he doesn't notice he's gone?

Season 1

  • In MISSION: PROTOCOL GEGAS, after Ali successfully saved Alicia from being killed by Dos, instead of scolding him for letting the enemies get away and take the Azurium, Alicia remained silent and cried. Ali noticed and tried to comfort her, but he ended up getting punched by her. Alicia isolated herself from other agents; even her own team by not going on missions with them, to train even more intensely, beating herself over not being strong enough to save her own life without the help of the agent she formerly despised.
  • In MISSION: UNO, Uno's true identity is revealed to be Agent Djin, who is none other than the former INVISO Chief and Rizwan's mentor. Rizwan's reaction to this reveal is very heartbreaking.
    • Jenny revealed to be The Mole of the Numeros. What makes this sad is that M.A.T.A was very trusting of her, and she was always known to be humble, helpful and an overall Nice Girl. Her revelation broke many people, especially Ali and Bakar. When Ali asked her why, she coldly mocked him and the M.A.T.A agents for being stupid because they trusted her so much.

Season 2

  • In MISSION: CHALLENGE, Jenny shows up along with Ocho to take the I.R.I.S's data via a microbug. Bakar, still unable to accept that Jenny is a traitor, still offered Jenny to return tob M.A.T.A. Jenny furiously refused and declared that her name is not Jenny. When Alicia asked Jenny about her actions, she replied with a small chuckle which made Alicia so furious at her. Jenny clearly regrets nothing.
Alicia : After all that happened, you still dare to show your face again?!
    Jenny : *small chuckle*
    Alicia : YOU TRAITOR!!!
  • In MISSION: MILK, after Ali's baby-sitting of Auntie Faye's grandson, Danish, Ali got picked up by Bakar after he finished his mission. Ali told him that his father completely changed after his Aliya's death, after being scolded for not finishing his house work. Bakar helped Ali to make a mend of their relationship by reminding him that today is Ghazali and Aliya's wedding anniversary, so Ali left a gift for his father. His gift is their wedding photo, the episode ended with Ghazali bursting into tears upon seeing it.
  • In MISSION: PURPOSE, After Ali witnessed Rizwan's betrayal, he went berserk due to the Override mode, and accidentally hurt his fellow young agents, and ended up being rudely called out by Rudy, Roza, Jet and Mika. Ali didn't even get a chance to explain himself, they refused to listen to him. They thought Ali was nothing but a self-righteous weakling who'd go to the lengths of blaming his mistakes on his gadgets than owning up to his own mistakes. This hurt Ali so much, to the point that he threw down I.R.I.S and wanted to quit being an agent. This caught the attention of the NEURO chief, Agent Zain, who later gave him some words of encouragement.
    • This moment parallels with Rizwan with the Numeros. Numero agents keep attacking him with the intent to kill him before Uno stopped them and gave Rizwan a chance to talk.
  • Almost everything in MISSION: DIEZ :
    • It turns out that Rizwan's efforts to put down the Numeros were in vain. All the Numeros agents survived thanks to their sacrificing of Ocho, and then Uno (or probably Jenny) controlled Rizwan's body (most likely with the microbugs they injected in him to heal faster) to turn-off the Academy's security system, allowing the Numeros entry onto the island.
    • After being almost overwhelmed by Uno, Agent Geetha pleaded to him to not target the Young Agents in the academy. When Uno attempted to kill her with a Busterdroid, all the Young Agents successfully saved her from the attack.
    • Rudy finally meets Uno. He still can't believe that the person that he genuinely idolized turned into their ultimate enemy. Rudy attempted to gently remind him about the person who he saved in the past. Uno, however, coldly dismissed him and almost killed him when Rudy tried to reach Uno. When Ali saved Rudy, his expression about realizing the truth that Djin and Uno are the same person is really heartbreaking.
  • Chief Zain's death in MISSION: LEGACY. He willingly stayed on M.A.T.A Academy's island to stop Uno, in order for the others, both Mentors and Young Agents, to evacuate. Then, the explosion happened, resulting in both Zain and Uno's supposed deaths.
    • Rudy ultimately accepted that his idol, Chief Djin, was a traitor to M.A.T.A all along. When Rudy looks at the INVISO Monument, which has a mark for each fallen INVISO agent, he is clearly still disappointed over this truth.
    • Ali and Alicia are clearly saddened over their secret mentor's death. She even gives a fist-bump at the NEURO monument, then shedded a Single Tear before leaving.

Season 3

  • The events of the Numeros' second raid clearly traumatize Rizwan early in season 3, to the point where he has a nightmare about seeing a dark reflection of himself as Uno's successor. And when he faces Dos at Cuatro's hideout, he briefly believes that Uno is still alive and order Dos to him to drag him back to the Numeros.
  • "Black Out" :
    • Episode opens with the young agent being saddened over Moon, Jet and Bulat's elimination. It was even sadder that the three of them are usually cheerful and act as comic relief in the series, making this a Shoo Out the Clowns moment. Poor Moon ended with a tearful breakdown before being forced to leave the agency. When their comrade was talking about their fate after leaving, there is a possibility of their memories will be wiped out or worse, that they will " disappear without a trace".
    • Sam ultimately confesses his reason for acting like a jerk toward Young agents. It turns out that he felt inferior to the other NEURO agents, who were known to be quick thinkers, good strategists and fast. Sam feels he has none of them and no one respects him. He also states that his agency branch has lots of bullies who are always looked up to everyone. This led him to act the same way as the bullies to gain respect and cover his weaknesses. You can see from his expression that he is genuinely saddened over this, especially when he states that the Senior chose him to join the Arena because they wanted to see him fail and remove him from MATA permanently.
  • While Moon, Jet, and Bulat are the only ones as of Episode 5 to be eliminated, Fridge Sadness kicks in when you realize the reasons why some of the young agents are enrolled in the first place.
    • Khai's family doesn't have a lot of money. Despite this, his father (who works as a janitor no less) bought him an expensive A.I chip so Khai can learn robotics and someday improve his life. Khai is one of the lower ranked agents, so if he's out then his father's sacrifice would be All for Nothing.
    • Mika was born with a neurological disability that prevents her from walking. M.A.T.A agreed to treat her in exchange for her service to them. Elimination would mean Mika would never walk again as the suit that lets her walk is the property of the agency. It's also possible she's not financially capable as the movie introduces Niki who can't afford prosthetics to help her walk as well.
  • Trap:
    • Ali and the other MATA Agents find out that Rizwan is still alive. Unfortunately, no one believes that Rizwan is not a traitor, especially since he's still with Dos in Cyberscience. Ali is saddened that he can't find Rizwan's reasons for working with Dos.
    • Cinco finds Cuatro's hideout and orders Trez to kill him as a punishment for joining Rizwan's side. When Rizwan and Dos hurry to find Cuatro, they find nothing but the burned hideout.
    • The accident in the Cyberscience building that's caused by Cinco controlling the Azurium's reactor results in several innocents including young MATA Agents being injured. Aleks and Roza suffer serious injuries and need to get treatment in hospital.
    • It's revealed the secret intel from Numeros is none other that Kimberly Song, and Cinco also turns out to be her ex-TEKNO Agent who Kim looks on as her own big sister. Kim is also the one who helps her mentor/sister to bait the young Agents to enter Cyberscience. Despite following Cinco's instruction, Kim is not happy with this and feel guilt about her action.
  • Sting:
    • You can feel Ali's pent-up rage when Kim reveals herself as a traitor. First Jenny, then Rizwan (supposedly), and then Kim, all of which have been his seniors who looked after him at some point.
  • Champion:
    • Kim's Conflicting Loyalty over whether she needs to stay with her sister or with her new friends. Despite always following Jenny's instructions, Kim decides to stop following her demands and calls out her action as going too far and becoming not so different from her abuser back in orphanage. Of course, Jenny takes this not so kindly and attempts to kill her.
    • It's brief, but seeing Mika fall over after her Mecha suit goes offline can be painful to look at.
    • Jenny has done a lot more terrible than Uno as the Numeros' new leader. Although she suffers a brutal death from a swarm of microbugs, Kim still attempts to save her. Unfortunately, Kim's action is in vain and she is forced to see her sister and her only family suffer gruesome deaths in front of her eyes. Even Alicia and Ali are terrified and feel sorry to Kim for what happens to her and Jenny.
    • Dato' Hisham's reign as temporary Mayor over, as Dato' Othman had already recovered from being permanently crippled after the event in The Movie. When entering his office, Othman didn't even greet Hisham or thank him, and Othman just coldly ignored him. Hisham was genuinely sad and dissapointed over his former mentor's treatment.
    • Kim final fate. Despite her young age and also helping the Young Agents to defeat Jenny, she is still imprisoned by MATA since she also responsible for helping Jenny and Numeros. She didn't get a final goodbye with the Young Agents and the International Agents in final round.

The Movie

  • In the past, it is shown that Niki is one of Dato Othman's unfortunate victims. As a child, she lived in the poverty-stricken slum areas of Cyberaya. Due to Othman's selfishness, she lost everything. Such as her parents, her house and she then became paralyzed due to being injured by falling debris. Niki only has Mak Nyah, a neighbor who became a mother-figure to her.
  • Ali is clearly upset about not having a mother when Mrs. Ong visits his home. He is saddened that he can't spend time with his mother as Viktor and his mother are shown to be very loving of each other. His father Dr. Ghazali is all he has left, but he's always at work and in the short instances he's at home he's scolding Ali for chores he can't do because of his secret important job, too tired or still handling work as opposed to bonding with him.
  • Aliya and Niki's friendship ended due to Aliya being recruited as a M.A.T.A agent. Niki feels so betrayed and decided to take down the Mayor by blowing up the city. This resulted in Aliya pulling off a Heroic Sacrifice to prevent the missile from blowing up the city. In the end, Aliya used Override mode in full force that it took her life. After the bullet struck another bullet, causing it to explode in the air, Aliya eventually died from using this mode to 100%.
    • Knowing that Aliya's death was due to her pulling a Heroic Sacrifice to stop her destructive action, Niki is clearly not happy with this. She hates being blamed by Ali and Bakar for murdering her former best friend, and she retaliated that Aliya decided to risk her own life.
  • Ali reunites with his mother, Aliya. Before her departure, Aliya informs Ali that if he uses the true power of I.R.I.S, her data will be permanently erased. Ali is reluctant to do this for the sake of stopping Niki, but Aliya encourages him and gives a warm hug before she completely vanishes away.
  • After Niki is successfully defeated, she tells Bakar to finish her, accepting her death at his hand. However, Bakar refuses to kill her for the sake of avenging Aliya's death because he knew that Aliya would not be happy with this.
    • The fact is, you can see that Niki's life is indeed miserable. She lost her parents and her house, and suffered paralysis. Then she lost her only best friend and eventually got consumed by her own hatred over Dato' Othman for making her suffer, leading her motivation to ending up being a villain instead of a hero. When Aliya's data surged through both I.R.I.S and is sacrificed to break the battle and to apologize to Niki for hurting her feelings, Niki realized that what she had been doing was for nothing. In the end, Niki offered Bakar to kill her, so he can avenge Aliya's death. On her last scene, Niki clearly just wanted to die, so she can atone for all her actions and reunite with her parents and her best friend.

Others

  • The song of Mama (Di hatimu),Hati Ayah and Hati Ibu dan Ayah are incredibly sad, especially since this song is about Ali's parents, whose love for their son connects them, even when one of them is no longer there.
