The First Podcast has a veritable truckload of references, some very obvious and some extremely subtly (but purposefully) placed. This list, as-is, is both woefully incomplete (orders of magnitude so) and already severely outdated.
- Madison's ringtone is "Apollo Justice ~ Guitar Serenade Ringtone" from the Ace Attorney series.
- When Madison points out that Freddie Mercury was born in Zanzibar, Lars asks, "Like Psycho Mantis?"
- On rare occasions where someone says the world "critical", Lars will splice an audio clip of Cr1TiKaL
stating his handle in a deadpan tone. - The first (now deleted) episode has a lengthy misunderstanding concerning Barbra Streisand apparently being cast as a Jewish boy in Yentl.
- Lars pronounces "an imbalance of the humours" much in the manner of David Tennant on Doctor Who.
- When the hosts or guests make a long, sustained noise, Lars will occasionally layer in audio from a Gus Johnson video entitled "Mitchell Robbins Microwaves Soup".
- At one point, Madison accidentally references Reading Rainbow while discussing an impromptu poem about a butterfly flying through the sky, much to the amusement of the hosts.
