Sandbox / Broken Base Friday The13th The Game

Go To

There's quite a few things going on with this game that has split the playerbase.

  • Savini Jason. OP Pay-to-Win pre-order bonus or fair and square Jason character?
  • The June 20th content update has the community split, with some liking the update and some hating it for some of the following reasons:
    • Retro Jason. Lazy recolor and disappointing or fun and awesome with the Chiptune soundtrack adding enough uniqueness to make up for the recolor nature? It seems enjoyment of this aspect of the update depends on how much one enjoys having the previous video game Jason in the new one.
      • There's a second split here between people who think using Part 3 Jason was the best pick due to the accurate weapon and design matching up well or if they should have used Part 8 due to the base outfit being slightly closer and also using an ax (though an inaccurate one to the game).
    • The new counselor outfits. Better than the DLC outfits, making backers feel like they wasted their money or worse?
    • The 13k free CP being delayed to June 23rd, making players wait an additional three days for something that was promised on the 20th. Some will say it's fine since it matches up with the double XP weekend startup time but others waited for the update today just for them and are angry they have to wait longer.
  • Jason being able to speak. Some say it's good and can lead to some fun or scary matches while others say it ruins the immersion.
  • Glitch exploiters getting permanently banned. Some think that it's Disproportionate Retribution to punish players for a fault the developers left in, but others support the decision because of players deliberately using glitches to cheat.
  • Jason Voorhees as a character himself. The following abilities and tactics are often brought up in arguments about him, with one side saying he's too powerful while others think it's okay since Jason is meant to be OP.
    • The Shift-Grab technique. An unfair "cheat" or a necessity for catching up to speedy counselors like Chad and Vanessa?
    • 'Slasher Jasons', AKA Jason players who ignore going for flashy executions altogether and instead go for Boring, but Practical melee kills. Some argue that it's unfair because of Jason's insane swing speed and generally has no counter once you're being stun locked by the damage, while others say it's a valid way to play Jason, and sometimes is even a requirement if Jason suspects a counselor has a pocket knife or if he's on a time crunch (like say, a crowd of counselors is getting close to escaping).
      • On the subject of executions, the executions named Choke and Head Punch have attracted some ire thanks to their high animation kill speed (Head Punch in particular is a little over 2 seconds to execute) and are often cited as the signs of a no-fun allowed Jason. Both sides agree it's a valid way to play Jason, but the arguments start when one side is claiming it isn't fun to watch while the other says it doesn't matter.
    • Jason's Bear Trap, more specifically the habit of Jason players to completely lock down most, if not all objectives on the map with his traps. One side is convinced that it turns any objective into a death trap that cannot be traversed without alerting Jason and thus ruining all escape attempts, while the other side believes that it's a necessity to trap objectives to stop games from ending within minutes, while also refuting that the traps can be disarmed with pocket knives or just simply running right into them and immediately healing to undo the damage.
