- Agatha Christie's novel The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side takes its title from the poem.
- Anne of Green Gables: Anne and her friends decide to act out the poem, with Anne as the ill-fated Elaine. It's all going perfectly fine until the boat they're borrowing springs a leak and sinks in the middle of it. Anne is then left to cling to a bridge and suffer the humiliation of being rescued by her mortal enemy, Gilbert Blythe.
