Four years have passed since the end of the original adventure and the Digidestined has yet to see their Digimons. In the end they decided to move on to their careers.
Unfortunately, the Digital World is under attack by the Digimon Emperor a few months ago and Gatomon has just managed to flee from mind-controlled Unimon (At the cost of her Tail Ring in the process) before being reunited with Agumon and Patamon, the only ones of the Digidesined's partners that had not been controlled by his black rings. The Emperor is not amused with this and threatens to kill Unimon should he fail to capture the remaining Digimons but he still keeps his cool, knowing that his Dark Digivice prevents Digivolution.
Meanwhile in the Real World, TK is currently on his way to school by his mother's car wishing to meetup with his best friend Kari Kamiya. After encountering someone who looks a lot like Tai in the hallway, TK made it to his class at 7-2. There, siting next to The Tai Clone aka Davis Motomiya is his best friend Kari who sarcastically ask Davis on whether he is going to have another "fun" at Ms.Hakaishi's math class, Davis's most hated subject. That is the time when TK is introduced to the class much to the joy of Kari and to the ire of Davis not helped by the fact that TK knows his idol Tai Kamiya.
At 14:30 in the computer room, a red-headed computer genius by the name of Izzy Izumi is currently trying to unsuccessfully find a way to enter the Digital world. It is at this time that a lavender-haired girl by the name of Yolei Inoue glaringly requests Izzy to help fix Cody's computer. As Yolei decides to walk out, a young but mature kid under the name of Cody Hida scolds Yolei for being rude to Izzy despite her claiming that it is a joke. She eventually request that her brownie-filled bag be returned from Cody whom stored it in a locker.
By 14:45, the trio of Davis, Kari, and TK managed to enter the hall junction M-H where Izzy and the computer room reside in. After TK introduces himself to Izzy, Davis sneezed as a result from the dust in the computer room which resulted him in finding Izzy's Digivice and touches it which causes the computer signal to glow.
Elsewhere in an unknown location, an old man under the name of Gennai as well as a mysterious figure decides that now is the time to deliver the three new Digivices to the Real World with the shadowed figure intent on seeing how the New Digidestined deals with the Digimon Emperor.
Realizing that something big is going to happen, TK urges Kari to invite Tai over with them. Izzy then explains Davis about regarding his newer Digivice as well as the other 2 Digidestined that will be accompanying with them. Soon, Davis notices something amiss in the computer and flashes his Digivice on it, unintentionally opening the Digital Barrier in the process. Eventually the Digidestined decides to return to the Digital World after 4 years of absence...Only for Izzy to be left behind and be intercepted by Yolei and Cody.
Once they entered the Digital World, they are happily reunited with their Digimons (Of course Agumon mistakes Davis for Tai at first) only for it to be cut short when Unimon attacks prompting the Digidestined and their Digimons to run and retreat into the caves. There, they found a Digiegg that contain the Crest Of Courage. After Tai, TK, and Kari failed to lift it up, Davis managed to lift it with ease, and within the Digiegg, lies Veemon, the Digimon that is said to bring a great amount of luck. Unfortunately, Unimon managed to burst through and attacks the Digidestined. Despite Veemon telling Davis to use his courage to Digivolve, it is only when he sees Kari being hurt does he eventually decides to stand up and confront Unimon himself which prompts Veemon to Armor-Digivolve into Flamedramon and break through Unimon's Dark Ring. Tai, happy that Davis begins to stand up for himself, passed on his google to him as a sign of his status as a new leader.
Witnessing all of the actions, the Digimon Emperor remarks on this new obstacle that he has to conquer for his goal as the ruler, urging Wormmon to alert his controller Digimons.
Elsewhere, the shadowed figure is dissapointed in a sense that they failed to meet his expectations but nevertheless satisfied that the Digidestined managed to do quite well considering their inexperience. At the end, he remarks that the Digidestined will eventually face another threat once the Digimon Emperor has been eliminated.
