A duelist reaches Duel Academy using a familiar card.

  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Chumley returns and is shown doing very well working for Pegasus.
    • Meta-Example with The Winged Dragon of Ra.
  • Call-Back: Franz transfers his life points to Ra's attack points and merges with Ra, much like Yami Marik from the original series.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The Skyscraper 2 Hero City card Chumley personally designed and gave to Jaden comes in handy during Jaden's duel with Franz.
  • Easily Forgiven: Franz remains in Pegasus' employment after a lecture in humility.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Franz giving all but 1 life point to Ra and then activating De-Fusion to take all of his life points back along with Ra's attack points. This lets Jaden destroy Ra and bring it back to his side of the field allowing Glow Moss, Neos, and Ra to attack him directly.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Normally only a duelist chosen by the gods can duel using an Egyptian God Card, not to mention Jaden didn't even recite the incantation on Ra's card, yet Ra willingly obeyed Jaden when he brought him to his side of the field. Most likely it was a combination of being moved by Jaden's respect of monsters including Ra and love for dueling, plus wanting to take revenge on Franz for forcing it into servitude.
  • Restraining Bolt: Franz uses the field spell Mound of the Bound Creator, which he designed to restrain the Egyptian God cards. The card manifests chains that bind Ra to his will, which keeps him safe from retribution for using a counterfeit God card. Notably, Jaden does not need to use Mound of the Bound Creator when he summons Ra at the end of the duel, showing that the gods accept his use of the card.
  • Series Continuity Error: Franz's flashback of Chumley receiving praise from Pegasus and the other employees show Aster's father, even though he's supposed to be kidnapped or dead. Roughly a dozen episodes later, Pegasus even says he's been gone for ten years.
