Syrus and Hassleberry duel to see who Jaden's true best friend is.
- Everyone Has Standards: Atticus' "celebrity judge" persona is so over-the-top and nonsensical that even Hassleberry, who has constant delusions of being in the army, gets fed up with it.
- Missed Him by That Much: When Syrus is searching for Jaden in the woods, he walks by a lake where Jaden is swimming trying to catch some fish.
- Naked People Are Funny: Jaden swims in his boxers while trying to catch fish he could eat.
- Stating the Simple Solution: When Syrus and Hassleberry are arguing over who's Jaden's best friend, Alexis gets fed up and suggests they settle the issue the same way they do anything else in their universe- with a duel. It's played with, however, in that Hassleberry accepts Syrus is the better friend not because he loses, but because Syrus had been spending every night recently looking for Jaden.
- Undying Loyalty: Syrus spending every night searching for Jaden, sacrificing his time for eating and sleeping. This encourages Hassleberry to forfeit the duel by not activating a trap card that would've destroyed every monster on the field.
- Vicious Cycle: Syrus basically traps Hassleberry in one. His Decoyroid is the only monster Hassleberry can attack while his Ambulance Rescueroid special summons Decoyroid from the graveyard every time it's destroyed and whenever Syrus special summons a monster, his Cyber Summon Blaster depletes 300 life points from Hassleberry. Hassleberry actually had an out in the form of his Jurassic Impact trap card which would have ended the duel in a draw, but chose not to activate it after finding out just how dedicated Syrus is to Jaden.
